Margaret Tobin Brown became famous as a heroic survivor of the Titanic shipwreck that killed 1,500, but her spirit + aspirations were "unsinkable" throughout her colorful career as a leading philanthropist, activist and socialite. At age eighteen, Miss Tobin came to Colorado during the Gold Rush at her brother's suggestion to find adventure, greatness, and fortune. The tour leaves off where Margaret returns from the Titanic. As you might expect, the Molly Brown House is hosting a number of events tied to the 100th anniversary of the Titanic disaster (see sidebar below).

The Molly Brown House is one of the most well-known haunted houses in Colorado, and is open year round for tours. By the time Margaret Tobin Brown boarded Titanic at Cherbourg, France, she had already made a significant impact in the world.

Saved the Brown's old Victorian home from demolition in 1970. J. J. Brown (known as "Leadville Johnny" in the film and Broadway versions of Margaret Brown's story) found a means of mining gold, making the Browns wealthy and, after a move to Denver, part of Denver society.

Molly Brown was head of the Titanic Survivors' Committee which supported immigrants who had lost everything in the disaster, and helped to get a memorial erected to the Titanic survivors in Washington, DC. She was not allowed to testify in Congressional hearings about the Denver Colorado sinking of the Titanic, because she was a woman; in response to this slight she published her account in newspapers.

This museum was her house and is full of great history about her, Denver, and the two together. The Brown family moved to Denver in 1894 and Molly founded the Denver Dumb Friends League, designed the juvenile court system and ran for U.S. Senate in 1914. The Molly Brown Birthplace and Museum, situated at the corner of Mark Twain Avenue and Denkler's Alley, now is under the management of the Hannibal Convention and Visitors Bureau after three years of care from the Hannibal History Museum Foundation.

The Molly Brown House Museum preserves the home of the RMS Titanic's most famous survivor, The Unsinkable” Molly Brown. The directors of Historic Denver are doing this site a disservice by calling it a museum. The Molly Brown House Museum will celebrate the Denver icon's 150th birthday with a block party that pays homage to her philanthropy.
